November Special Offering

What Shall I Wear to my Funeral?...and Other After-Death Considerations

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Session held at Pathways

What will happen to your body after death? How do you envision your life will be remembered? Have you shared your wishes with those you love? Many are realizing that these important conversations are not only about dying – but about living mindfully and dying consciously according to your deepest values and beliefs.

As many spiritual traditions remember their dead during the month of November, this session will explore options and share information - allowing space for your questions about after-death care choices. Some specific topics will include:

  • Burial and cremation options
  • Planning resources and tools
  • Ceremony/Ritual preferences
  • Conversations with loved ones
  • Consumer rights

Being informed and planning ahead can help clarify what matters most to you, what and whom you value most, and how you want to live the rest of your life.

Anne Archbold & Marilaurice Hemlock are funeral celebrants and death educators whose work is part of a growing social movement toward more conscious after-death choices. www.finalblessingsmn.com

Giving Stocks

Thank you for your interest in supporting Pathways through a gift of stock. By making a gift of appreciated stock, you are able to make a charitable gift to Pathways and bypass capital gains taxes. To make gifts of appreciated assets, you must have owned them for at least one year and a day. Such gifts are deductible up to 30% of adjusted gross income in the year of the gift. Any unused deduction amounts may be deducted over as many as five subsequent tax years. Please note that it is usually to your advantage to donate appreciated stock rather than selling it and donating the proceeds. Please check with your financial advisor for more information.

Publicly Traded Stock

Appreciated stock that has been held longer than one year should be transferred directly to Pathways. Your deductible gift amount will be the average of the high and the low value of the stock on the date when you made the transfer, times the number of shares transferred. When you transfer appreciated stock directly to Pathways, you do not incur capital gains.

If you wish to make a gift of appreciated stock, please call your broker and ask them to transfer your stock to the Pathways account. Please contact Tim Thorpe at (612) 822-9061 for account information.

Closely Held Stock

Please contact Tim Thorpe at (612) 822-9061 for more information.

Consider Making a Charitable Bequest

A bequest to Pathways in your will is a creative way to make a thoughtful gift. A bequest is a distribution from your estate that may be made through a gift of cash, marketable securities, closely held stock, or real estate.  You may be able to significantly reduce your taxable estate when you make a charitable bequest because tax laws grant an unlimited estate tax deduction.

Convening: An Artful Death

Convening: An Artful Death

Sunday, October 29, 2017

11:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Presenters: Caitlin Doughty with Cathy Wurzer

At the Minneapolis Institute of Arts

What if, instead of fearing death, we worked to embrace one of life’s most important transitions? How might that change how we live right now and how we live until we die?

Pathways is partnering with Mia and The Bruce Kramer Collaborative to present an exploration of living and dying well and how death is experienced through the lens of art.

During this event, tours of curated works in the Mia collection combine with guided sessions that include music, body movement, opportunities to create your own art, storytelling and meditation to encourage the concept of befriending death and dying.

To spark the conversation, there will be an appearance by Caitlin Doughty, author/blogger/art historian and mortician, known for her work in the death acceptance movement.

EVENT SOLD OUT - Click Here to visit the Mia website.
